Outback Events Adds New Event

Cultus Lake Sprint & Olympic Distance Triathlons

The sport of triathlon is scheduled to return to Cultus Lake this spring.  The Okanagan based event Management Company, Outback Events Ltd. received approval to host a race at Cultus Lake at the recent Parks Board meeting.    The race would see athletes from around BC and Washington State come to the Fraser Valley for the event and is scheduled for May 13th, 2007. Athletes can experience a professionally run event in the beautiful surroundings of Cultus Lake, as triathlon was meant to be.

“With approval granted by the Park Board the next step is to work with and get approval from the Ministry of Highways, City of Chilliwack and the City of Abbotsford for approval of the bike course” said Race Director Joe Dixon.  We have a lot of things to put in place the next few weeks before registration can take place.”

Cultus Lake will host an Olympic distance triathlon consisting of a 1500m swim, 40km bike and a 10km run.  “We hope to attract newcomers as well as seasoned triathletes looking for an early season race with a lake swim,” said Dixon.  “We are very excited to be granted permission to bring the sport back to Cultus Lake.  We have spoken to a number of our athletes and they have told us that they would be interested in doing this event.”  Organizers hope to attract 300 – 400 athletes to the event.

Outback Events Ltd. is a Kelowna, BC based Sports Management Company owned and operated by Joe and Sarah Dixon since 2002.  Outback Events produce the “Wine Capital of Canada” Sprint Tri, the Oliver Half Iron in Oliver, BC and the Desert half Iron in Osoyoos.  On top of these events Joe is also the race director at Subaru Ironman Canada.
